Salem Summer 2016

Dear Lifehouse Families,

It’s hard to believe another season at Lifehouse is on the horizon. We hope you will join us in 2016-17. Below are the details of the Lifehouse summer schedule. Summer is meant to be fun, but also to keep student’s dance skills sharp and progressing forward.

Weekly Company Summer Schedule

Students interested in participating in a company for the 2016-17 season need to register for summer classes. Registration will be available online beginning June 1st. Students 6th grade and older who are new to Lifehouse should contact the studio for recommended placement. I love summer classes! We get to really fine tune our technique and build our strength and flexibility!

  • Summer classes for all students interested in participating at Lifehouse on a company level will begin on June 20 and conclude on August 5th. Summer classes are open to everyone, but are highly recommended for students planning to be on a company for the 2016-17 season.
  • Tuition is determined by the number of hours of instruction per week and is equivalent to regular tuition during the year.
  • There are seven weeks of summer classes. The studio will charge for six. (you pay for 6 of the 7 weeks). Dancers may also do makeup classes. Tuition designated is for the entire summer.
  • A $20.00 non-refundable annual registration fee is due upon enrollment for summer. The registration fee is $20 per student or $50 maximum per family. This reserves your spot for summer classes and/or summer camp and guarantees you a spot for the fall. You must pay it online when you register or your registration will be dropped and your spot will be made available for someone else.
  • Tuition for summer classes is due July 1st. Tuition for the dance camp is due by August 1st.
  • The summer class schedule will be based on age and company placement from the 2015-16 year.
  • Summer classes will serve as the audition process for next year’s company placement. This will allow us to watch students for an extended period and better place them in the right class for their growth the following year. It will also allow us to better place new company members in the right class and will help us to keep skills sharp and stay in prime condition year round.
  • I’m often asked why I require Company members to dance during the summer. I realize that each dancer has a different commitment level to dance. Being on a Company is for students who have the desire to excel. Taking two months off of your training each year over the course of your career, puts dancers at a clear disadvantage by the time they graduate from high school. Not only do they miss the two months during the summer, they also spend the first six weeks of fall gaining back what they lost when they were not dancing. The amount of time we ask of students in the summer is the minimum necessary to continue to progress and grow.

In this two hour class each week, students will focus on picking up different styles, performance and movement quality and tricks for learning combinations quickly. In looking at the strengths and weaknesses of our students, we feel this is an area where our students could use some dedicated work. We are excited to help the students grow over the summer in this area. Students will take a one hour jazz movement class and a one hour ballet variations class. Roll will be taken each week and students charged by the class. Students from gold, blue, red, magenta, green, silver, turquoise, and orange and other students by special invitation are all invited to attend. Students will be split into two groups. This will be incredibly beneficial. We hope lots of you will participate!

Lifehouse Summer Dance Camp

  • Company students ages 5-6 will participate in the Cinderella Ballet Camps for the week of August 8-12 for their summer camp curriculum.
  • We will also discuss goal setting as a class and establish friendships within our company.

Specialty Workshops

These workshops are optional opportunities to build and refine your skills as a dancer. They offer a unique opportunity to focus intensely on a few specialized core competencies and skills that students can build on throughout the dance year. I highly encourage participation as family’s budgets and schedules permit.

Auditions for Lifehouse 2016-17 Companies

  • An audition for Dance Companies will be held August 1st between the hours of 9 am-5 pm. It is a good experience for students to learn the art of auditioning as it is a part of the dance world. Students will showcase what they have been working on all summer. After the audition, class placement for the next season will be determined. Always our goal is to place dancers where they can grow and progress to their potential.
  • An audition for Musical Theater Company will also be held August 1st. Auditions will be held in Studio 7 from 2:30-4:00 pm. This is for students with a high level of experience in musical theater skills including acting, singing and dancing. This is for students who are committed to increasing their musical theater skills and are willing to work outside of class learning lines and music. Students must be 12 years old by September 1, 2016. Students should prepare a 16 bar vocal selection and bring their sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. They will be given dialogue and choreography at the audition.

If you have any questions regarding class placement or want some feedback as to your child’s readiness for a company class structure, feel free to contact me. The 2016-17 year will feature a ballet production, the fireside production in March of 2017, our Lifehouse Spectacular Production will be a Christmas show Santa Claus Christmas Party in December, The Spring Recital and Company Showcase, and The Musical Theater Review. Exact dates will be available September of 2016. I am so lucky to work with such amazing students.

Best Regards,
