Why invest in a strong early childhood dance education for your child?

Starting your child out with a strong foundation in dance education has many advantages. Our program for 3-7 year olds builds an incredible foundation in dance etiquette, body awareness, technique and musicality. Students are taught to master concepts and not just do them and become accustomed to this methodology. Many transfer students that we receive have not been taught the building blocks of alignment and technique. Our little students know what is expected of them in a dance class. They are taught in a nurturing way from the beginning how to follow dancer manners. They rise to the loving expectation of their teacher. This makes all of the difference in their training.

Many studios group large age groups of children together in the same classes. I’ve always recognized the differences in development between the ages of 3-8 years old and have avoided grouping these age groups together. Separating classes by age in the early years allows us to truly teach to the cognitive and physical development of the growing child. This allows us to utilize a student’s natural development in the way we teach so they can acquire motor, cognitive and social skills beneficial for later life roles, including that of a more advanced dancer. Ballet and tap are the most beneficial for the young dancer in building a foundation of body awareness, technique and rhythm in the young dancer.

Preschool pre-ballet/creative:

These classes are for students 3-4 years of age just beginning their journey in the art of dance. Classes are structured the same as a traditional ballet class with a warm-up, center barre, and across the floor activities. Throughout the class, children explore monthly objectives such as music, movement concepts, class etiquette and participate in a free dance activity at the end of each class. The curriculum for this age group focuses on building muscle strength, coordination, rhythm, musicality, body awareness and self-expression. Students also learn to follow directions and how to follow proper dance etiquette in the classroom. Classes are separated into three year old classes and four year old classes to utilize children’s naturally occurring cognitive and neural development. The age cut off for classes is October 1, 2019. For example, if your child will be turning four on September 15, 2019 they should register for the four year old class. Three year old classes and Little Leapers are 50 minutes in length, four year old classes are one hour.

Little Leapers

Each toddler (ages 18 months to 3 years) and their loved one will dance on five different journeys throughout the program.

Whether flying in outer space, going to the circus, playing in the park, dancing like the animals in the zoo, or growing a magical garden, each child will be captivated.  Grown-ups will be amazed at how useful each lesson is to their child’s development and love every second of class as they share many smiles and giggles with their little one. Classes will begin the first week of September and conclude the last week of April. Tuition is $40.00 a month. Students will also need to purchase tights and a leotard for their little dancer. We will have small leotards made for the tiny dancers and available for purchase. Girls and boys are welcome as students. Boys should wear shorts and a tucked in t-shirt. A parent, either mom or dad, will attend class with the student. The season will culminate with an in-studio demonstration for family and friends.
