Company Classes

Company students have a passion for dance and a desire to reach their potential as a dancer! Students can begin the company track at six years of age. Each company level has a syllabus for each style of dance they are studying with expectations for what they will learn in the year. As students progress and master the syllabus, they move up to the next level of curriculum over their time at Lifehouse. Students are taught how to be an excellent student to get the most out of their training. They are evaluated individually by teachers on Lifehouse’s five principles of an excellent dance student to help them progress and grow.

Company classes require more time and commitment, however, the studio believes in balance and family time. We make the very best use of the student’s time and require the minimum amount of time in dance training required to achieve excellence and reach their personal goals.

You must audition and be accepted to participate in a company to enroll in any of these classes. If you have not been accepted and would like to participate in a company, please contact the studio.

Company students training includes the following:

Ballet technique classes:

Ballet is the foundation of all dance forms. It teaches correct alignment and muscle usage. It develops strength and beautiful lines so important to a dancer.

Pointe work:

Students who are committed to ballet advanced to pointe work. Emphasis is on safety and proper technique to ensure the student’s well being and full enjoyment of this beautiful form of dance.

Conditioning classes:

Conditioning is designed to integrate strength, flexibility, balance, alignment and core support into the advanced dancers training. The technique is drawn from Horton, Luigi, Vaganova, Yoga, Pilates and basic jazz to prepare a dancers body to accurately perform the rigorous demands of dance. Advanced turns, extensions and leaps are incorporated into class after the dancer’s body is conditioned to perform these steps properly.

Jazz:

Many styles of jazz are studied including contemporary and Broadway. Jazz technique classes include the turns, jumps, and leaps used in jazz choreography as well as incorporating style and artistry into the movement.

Modern/ Contemporary:

Modern classes are taken by students in Junior High and High School to further advanced their training. Students who study modern are at a huge advantage when they attend a university to study dance. Modern dancers learn to use their spine finding full three dimensional quality to their movement. Modern helps a dancer understand and use gravity to aid their dancing. It also develops full body internal connections and teaches how to use breath to support their movement. Studying the technique of modern helps to bring authenticity to a student’s performance making the movement have a more organic quality. Modern also teaches how to move in and out of the floor efficiently and allows students to find creativity and expression in movement.

Tap:

Tap at Lifehouse is rockin’! The intricate footwork and rhythms of tap aid in all dance forms. This high energy and entertaining dance form is always a student and crowd favorite.

Uniform:

For all company ballet classes students should wear pink convertible tights, black leotard, pink ballet shoes, hair in a bun for ballet. For jazz, company students should wear a leotard with dance shorts or pants. Students will need black tap shoes for their tap classes.

When enrolling in a company, you need to register for each class individually. All classes are mandatory to perform with your assigned company except for tap. Tap is mandatory until the age of 12 and then it becomes optional.
